Armour Rod
The PREFORMEDTM Armour Rods are intended to protect conductors/strands against bending, compression, abrasion and arcover damage and to provide restorative repair.
The degree of protection needed on a specific line depends upon a number of factors, such as line design, temperature, tension, exposure to wind flow and vibration history on similar construction in the same area.
As a general guide the following recommendations may be adapted to the specific conditions:
- Armour Rods are recommended as minimum protection for clamp-type supports and suspensions.
- Armour Rods are recommended as minimum protection for hand tied spans of 90m or more.
PREFORMEDTM Armour Rods may be used to restore full conductivity and mechanical strength to conductors/strands where damage does not exceed approximately 50% of the outer layer and when located at point of support or within the mid span area and is located within the centre third section of the repair fitting.
Single and Double Support lengths available
Thermal Rating (Continuous) Within a high temperature Suspension Clamp 250°C, ACSS Repair 250°C, ACSR Repair 125°C.
Available PARROT-BILL ends to meet the corona onset and RIV requirements for most EHV applications.
PREFORMEDTM Armour Rods are made of material compatible with the strand to which they are applied.
The lay direction must be the same as that of the outer stranding of the conductor to which it is applied.
