PLP ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF PLOTWORKS® CONVERT

– Soft Copy Plotting for Streamlined File Conversion and
Plan Room Integration –

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – April 25, 2005 – A new solution for preparing print-ready digital drawings in the AEC industry is now available. PLP Digital Systems, the leading digital reprographics solutions provider, today announced the release of PlotWorks® Convert. This soft copy plotting solution batch converts either single or multi-sheet drawings to print-ready format, delivering high fidelity with high performance.

PlotWorks Convert supports the DWF™ file format from Autodesk, Inc. The Autodesk DWF file format is rapidly becoming the standard in the engineering and design community for sharing complex design data. PlotWorks Convert supports a variety of other file formats, including CALS, HP-GL, HP-GL/2, HP-RTL, PDF, TIFF and VIC.

Available immediately, PlotWorks Convert enables businesses to:

  • Accept DWF files in single or multi-sheet format, and natively convert them to either PDF or TIFF format. Sheet names and sequence are automatically extracted.
  • Resample TIFF images while scaling to produce half-size sets with unprecedented quality and clarity.
  • Open jobs previously saved from Repro Desk and convert the drawings using any of the available options, including resampling. PlotWorks Convert supports VIC and JOB files created by Océ Repro Desk client or server.
  • Optimize image quality and file size for a variety of applications. Multiple resolution options convert to 200, 300, 400 or 600 dpi. A variety of compression algorithms are available.
  • Convert and compress into Zip-formatted files, all at the same time.

"The exchange of mission-critical drawings as digital files is rapidly expanding. AEC professionals need to assemble these files into print-ready digital file formats for a variety of applications, including online plan rooms, archiving, or digital exchange with business partners. We used PLP's core technology to create a production tool to reduce bottlenecks and streamline workflow," said John Cronin, CEO of PLP.

Kevin Rowe, President of the U.S. Reprographics Network, said, "I have processed over 16,000 DWF files in the last three months, and PlotWorks has never failed. It's about 400% faster than any of the available alternatives."

To make it easy for businesses to upgrade to more advanced products, PLP offers an Investment Protection Policy with PlotWorks Convert. Customers with software maintenance policies may apply the full purchase price of PlotWorks Convert when upgrading to the full version of PlotWorks. The full version provides reprographics workflow capabilities including support for leading high-performance printers and scanners from KIP, Kyocera Mita, Océ and Xerox.
