PLP ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF PLOTWORKS® 5.5.1

– Native Autodesk DWF™ Support Streamlines Printing, File Conversion
and Plan Room Integration –

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – February 22, 2005 – PLP Digital Systems, the leading digital reprographics solutions provider, today announced the release of PlotWorks® version 5.5.1. The latest generation of PLP's reprographics software includes new features that improve performance, output quality and interoperability – including native support for the DWF™ file format from Autodesk, Inc. The Autodesk DWF file format is the standard in the engineering and design industry for sharing complex design data.

"If you need to print or convert DWF files, PlotWorks 5.5.1 is a "must-have" software solution," says Kevin Rowe, President of the U.S. Reprographics Network. "I have processed over 16,000 DWF files in the last three months, and PlotWorks has never failed. It's about 400% faster that any of the available alternatives, and PLP's customer support is superior, proactive and personal."

Available immediately, as either a printing or conversion solution, PlotWorks 5.5.1 provides:

  • DWF File Processing: Process DWF files natively, either single-sheet or multi-sheet files. PlotWorks 5.5.1 supports multi-size multi-sheet DWF files, password-protected documents, and non-standard image sizes.
  • Output-to-File: Rapidly convert any supported vector, raster or object-based file format (including DWF) to TIFF or other supported print-ready formats to streamline archiving, distribution and plan room population. Customers may choose from a variety of resolution and compression options, and may create either single or multi-sheet documents. Users may also choose to compress the resulting file(s) into a single, zipped file to streamline distribution to business partners.
  • Image Quality Enhancements: Customers will notice a dramatic improvement in image quality when printing files that contain embedded raster images or images with filled areas. The new rasterization engine supports both error diffusion and ordered dithering in 256 levels of gray to optimize output quality on any supported printer.
  • Superior Half-Size Quality: With the implementation of a new imaging pipeline, users may optionally re-sample raster images on-the-fly while scaling, resulting in half-size sets with unprecedented quality and clarity.

"We use PlotWorks 5.5.1 to process DWF files in the same way that we process TIFF or PLT files – no third-party converters are required," states More McCormack, Director of Technology for National Reprographics, a ReproMAX member in New York. "In addition, with PlotWorks our operators can continue to use Repro Desk Remote as a front end if they wish. The workflow is more efficient, which strongly influenced our decision to switch to PlotWorks."

PlotWorks 5.5.1 supports leading high-performance printers and scanners from KIP, Kyocera Mita, Océ and Xerox.
